Old Hill Burying Ground
Powder House
The powder house is located at the top of the hill in
the Old Hill Burying Ground. The Old Hill played a
key role in the fight on April 19, 1775. Minutemen
gathered on the hill early that morning but later
retreated. The British also used the hill because of
its vantage point overlooking the town of Concord.
Many of the oldest stones are located in Old Hill,
including the grave of Major John Buttrick who gave
the command to fire that April morning with the
words "Fire, fellow-soldiers, for God's sake, fire."
